As a technology professional, it is important to keep my skills sharp and stay up-to-date on the latest technology. The first step toward that end was finding my dream job. Nevertheless, it’s important to experiment with new things outside of work. Things that I would not normally get a chance to do otherwise. I’m using this post outline a plan of attack over the course of the rest of the year.

There are three projects I’d like to work on.

The first project I would like to put some resources toward is the fitness app I started to develop as part of my portfolio during the job search process. It remains a great application idea for me to flesh out modern PHP development practices. It also gives me an opportunity to work on something I love and will find useful in my own time at the gym. I think others would like it too.

The second area I’d like to work on is an idea I’ve been calling LittleGood.org. The idea is to create a simple website/organization that can help bring people together (like myself) that would like to do good on a regular basis, but find it difficult to find good volunteer opportunities in the midst of our busy lives. The idea is a little good can go along way. This project excites me in particular because it gives me a way to put something positive into the world and hopefully change the lives of others on a greater scale than I could do just by myself.

Finally, I’d like to look at connecting one or both of these apps to Facebook. Not that I think it would be particularly challenging, but I think there is something to experiencing what it’s like to code against the largest social network in the world.
